WebI 4.1 SP3 P2: "No values to display" when expanding hierarchies

We have a case logged with SAP Support but wanted to see if anyone has come up with a workaround for this WebI/BICS snafu

• Working WebI/BICS reports in 4.0 SP5
• Upgraded system to 4.1 SP3 Patch 2
• Slect a WebI/BICS report in which you modify a hierarchy object in the WebI report Query Panel by invoking the Member Selector
• Expand hierarchies (parent) result in No values to display' (child)
• Seems close to SAP Note 2018648

If anyone out there has a workaround to cear out the behavior, as we are hoping to avoid adding a patch to the system....been through 4.1 SP2 patching to chase issues..gave up and went to SP3.  Largely ok...except for this showstopper.
