Query Filter Panel not seen when using Rich Client 4.1 with a spreadsheet as a source

I am using Rich Client 4.1 and created a query from a spreadsheet that sits out in a server location.  The query filter panel does not appear?  Is this a restriction of using a spreadsheet as a source?  Is it a security issue?  I would like to place some query filters on this query regardless of the source of the data.
